December 5th to December 7th 2023 Iain, December 7, 2023December 10, 2023 Huguenot Memorial Park Campground This campsite has so much potential but is well past it’s prime and was a real disappointment. The individual sites have power but no water hookup and no sewer hookup. We knew this going in so was prepared for that and that has not tempered our review in any way. We filled up with water onsite when we first arrived. The first impression counts and this one was bad. From the washed out road, the very low occupancy rate, the extremely unlevel site and the general rundown nature of the campsite as a whole we knew we wouldn’t be back. There is no shade on most of the campsites so in the summer that could be a concern. The host’s campsite was very unkempt and didn’t set a good standard. Security and police cars drove by on a regular basis so that was a little unnerving, not sure why they had to be here so often. There were probably 10 other campsites occupied while we were there out of 60 available campsites, that’s unheard of in Florida. Getting setup was challenge as the site was so unlevel we had to stack blocks at the front of the trailer to get enough height to level the trailer. While doing this the nearby Naval base was a hive of activity with regular fly bys by the local top guns, helicopters taking off and landing and large planes performing touch & go’s provided some noisy entertainment. This continued for both days we were there, both during the day and well into the nighttime hours. One we got settled in we made the best of the two nights we had booked. The beaches are great, no dogs allowed but vehicles are allowed on the beach, they recommend 4 wheel drive vehicles and the park does not tow you out if you get stuck. We did not drive on the beach ourselves. For biking, the park roads offers about a 2 mile circuit but if the tide is out and the sand is firm, you can ride for about 2 miles up and down the beach near the waterline. The dogs suffered from picking up sandspurs on almost every walk, we had to keep them out of the weeds as best we could. We mostly walked them on the road. For this reason alone, we would not recommend this campsite for dog walkers, sandspurs are the devil’s work. The canacl between the campsite and the naval base was quite busy and watching some the large cargo ships/barges go buy was somewhat interesting. One redeeming feature, Verizon 5g internet access was excellent and T Mobile 5g internet access was adequate, streaming Netflix for example was flawless. We didn’t use the bathhouse so no idea what that was like. Park map Park rules 2023 RV Trips HuguenotMemorialParkCampgroundrv tripstwogocamping
